Oh Be Careful Little Eyes What You See

I'm sure all or most of us know that song. It was one of my favorites when I was little and still is today. It goes on to say Oh be careful little ears what you hear; little mouth what you say; little hands what you do; and feet where you go.

As much as I loved that song and the actions to it, I never really took it seriously until several years ago. Or maybe I should say I never really understood it until then.

 The song makes perfect sense! First we need to be careful what we see and hear and then what we do and where we go. If we can do the first two we won't have to worry about the rest. I believe everything which enters our minds either through our eyes or ears will influence us and eventually determine what we do with our mouths, hands and feet.

 The most crucial thing we must do as Christians is to purify our minds. We must get rid of ALL negative or worldly influences in our lives if we want to move on to perfection. Jesus said in Matthew 5:29, "And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee..."

 Many people disagree with me when I say this includes television, radio and fiction books. They say as long as we're not influenced by them.  

I was about 15 years of age when I received my very own radio. I loved the radio so much I knew every song off by heart. Every time I entered my room it was the first thing I would turn on and the last thing to turn off when leaving.

Shortly after I received it I started having these dreams. I dreamt I couldn't turn the radio off anymore and I needed the radio off so I could sleep. I unplugged it and it still played. Then the dreams came where I would smash the radio to little pieces in the attempt to shut it off but it kept playing. In every dream I was terrified.

 I didn't understand the dreams at the time, but looking back now I understand God what was trying to tell me. I believe He was trying to tell me that as long as I would listen to that music there would be no way for me to stop its influence on my life.  

 Now that I have gotten rid of my television, radio, and fiction books I am a much happier person. I spend more time with God, read the Bible more often, and listen to sermons online. Life has taken on a whole new meaning. I still have a long way to go but I'm starting to think, speak, act, dress and even eat differently.

 There are many activities which I grew up with which I was never convicted of as being sin, until I freed my mind from the worldly influences. There are many things I did a few months ago, which I cannot do today with a clear conscience.

 The song says, "OH be careful little eyes..." and I believe we should take it seriously. Let's not just sing it because it sounds good, let's sing it because we're going to do it.
